Zayd Takes Maryland

The little lentil and I have had so many adventures lately that it has been impossible to keep up with the posts! I briefly documented our Beauty and the Beach Bachelorette Weekend yesterday but I haven't even mentioned our whirlwind 72-hour trip to Maryland.

I had very important meetings to attend in MD and we Mammens decided that Zayd was better off sticking with me versus staying home with Daddy and the Manny. Thus, Zayd's first airplane ride happened at the ripe old age of 4+ months. He is traveller just like his mommy and he was pretty darn good on the flights up and down. (No small feat for a little guy, the flights were three hours and twenty minutes each.)

I, on the other hand, was a nervous wreck. I think it was only made worse because my colleagues were on the plane and I am pretty sure that at least one of them is none-too-fond of little tykes. Especially not of little tykes confined to the same relatively small space for 3+ hours. If Zayd was in full-on meltdown mode for the entire trip, the strangers would never bring it up again, but my colleagues...they would remember Zayd as the littlest plane tyrant. (I almost went with the word hijacker but decided that it was a shade too risky.) I was lucky to have a good friend next to me. A good friend with a soothing motherly voice. I think she used it on both me and the lentil.

It was amazing to see my favorite kiddoes in Bethesda. I can't believe how much they've grown and I am astounded by how much I love them. They are one of a small handful of things that make me miss (and, rarely, long for) the District of Columbia. The fact that my bestie lives there now was an added (delicious!) bonus. I am so happy the my baby and my DC babies got along smashingly. And it was SO SMART of me to bring that sweet-faced boy up to MD with me...HE will get my favorite Marylanders to finally pay a visit, I just know it.

The trip was exhausting. On the last rainy morning, I was hoping to get out and see the new MLK memorial. But that is when my mommy brain took over. A year ago, I would have dragged my exhausted long-working, even longer-commuting, 4 hours of sleep self out to the metro, to downtown, to the memorial, taken a photo, gotten tea at that cute tea place out there (the name escapes me), headed back on the metro, walked to my car, and taken off for the airport. Instead the lentil and I spent the morning and a few hours into the afternoon lying on the couch snuggling and listening to the rain. "That's rain Zaydie. We don't get rain in Texas."

Zayd's First (Only?) Bachelorette Party

When making this post, I realized that though this is his first bachelorette weekend it is actually his second girl's weekend. This little guy gets around!

Though it was El's weekend, I think Zayd may have stolen the show. I can assure you that he was the only half dressed man at the party. And he was shocked as ever to see so many beautiful girls adoring him!

He found six new ladies with hair to pull and he enjoyed every minute of it while we tried to pry our locks from his teeny (curiously strong) fingers.

And he loved his morning walks on the beach with his aunties and me. The Bryn Mawr gang woke bright and early even on vacation. Once a Mawrter...

It was a great weekend. Zayd is so grateful that his lovely aunties let him crash the girls only weekend. We can't wait till Zaydie has little cousins and we can have a babies only weekend that the moms get to crash!

Hoo has ever seen a cuter baby?

Zayd has outgrown his hats. As you can imagine, the straps on this hat are no where close to reaching around my little man's chin! (And yes, that is him in his ducky footed pajamas wrapped up on mommy.)

His 75-percentile head just wont fit inside any of his head coverings. We are on the hunt for a new hat. This one didn't make the cut but I thought I should share!

Zayd loves his aunties!

We are spending a beautiful weekend at the beach. Zayd is loving all of the attention from these wonderful ladies. There are so many new faces to look at!

Thanks to two aunties for the adorable bryn mawr-esque onesie!

Hot town, summer in the city!

We recently made the trek out to Houston again and had a wonderful time visiting family and friends. Zayd got to try out his new bathing suit with mixed results.

It sure is adorable, as is he in his daddy's arms.
But maybe he could stand to grow into it a bit!

Either way, we had a wonderful time swimming with Auntie Nisa, Uncle Paul, and cousin Zayne! Hope to see you guys again soon!

Who's his favorite?

Zayd has a few favorite toys. It seems like he had trouble deciding between the Winkle and Sophie the giraffe. Other faves include Peter Puppy or his cousin Bertie the Bear.
I took this photo during our drive to Houston. It was our best drive yet! We didn't have to stop to tend to a crazed baby AT ALL. This is a fantastic sign for next week when he and I are making the drive all alone. Eek!

Chilling out!

This little guy is so close to sitting on his own its ridiculous. Also, if you come within a foot of him he WILL find something to chew on! And it might be your face. (Honestly)

Bathtime Fun

Today's post is not an adorable musing on Zayd at bath time. Rather, it is a hysterical hysterical commentary on the insane number of things we mothers buy "for the baby!" While looking up shower caps (for a much more normal purpose, I swear), I came across this baby shampoo visor. It's for all the moms who just can't seem to keep the Johnson & Johnson's out of little Johnny's eyes.

I might buy a lot of cloth diapers but I don't seem to have fallen quite this far into the money trap. This looks like one of those collars you but in Fido so he can't bite his fleas. And I am pretty sure that this started as the base of a silicone bundt pan.
(Actual Bundt Pan)
What is your favorite ridiculous baby product?

Shocking!

I know I have been a delinquent poster. A stomach bug, four month vaccines, and the arrival of Umma Chi set me back.

I'm as shocked as you that it took so long to get on here and leave an update!
