I was sad to miss the MLK March today but did get to spend time talking with the kids about how to create a positive peace and reading MLK's Letters from a Birmingham Jail. I planned a lesson for them about systemic racism and King's letters and, despite some frustrations on their part (writing on a weekend!?!... It's MONday!) I think we made progress on multiple fronts.
Despite all we lost in 2020, they did have the opportunity to do some work towards creating a positive peace. They were home to see many examples of Kingian non-violence on tv, as protestors (and they) proclaimed that "black lives matter". Today was an opportunity to reflect and I'm grateful for it.
