Last month we went to Big Bend and it was beyond magical. The kids had the best time spending 34/7 with their best friends/quarantine neighbor family. The daytime weather was awesome (until it was freezing), so hiking was great and the kids could go a pretty good distance in the middle of the day.
It was amazing to be away. There is internet at Big Bend, it turned out, so I turned off my data connection and I am so glad I did. No one needs internet in a place like Big Bend. We crossed the Terlingua Creek to enter the canyon just over the Rio Grande. We scarmbled up, down and around stone steps, cliff walls, and ledges. We saw bears! We ate simply. We snuggled to stay warm. We played board games. We were a family, without the trappings of our very busy lives that can constrain us at home.
I can't wait to go back to nature. For now, I will look back at these pictures.
