Necessity is the mother of invention

Tip #1 from being a Stay At Home Mom.
What's the easiest way to move your baby AND his clean laundry from one room to another?

BooTanica! A Photo Bomb

Thanks to my sewing machine, a hot glue gun, some old t-shirts, and a short trip to Michael's with my very helpful sister-in-law for brown foam, Zayd's first Halloween costume of the season came together in a little more than two hours. :) (That's right, first ever AND first of the season as we will be debuting another on Halloween proper.)

Many many moons ago, my friend Hannah sent me this photo as inspiration for an easy DIY Halloween costumer for my then unnamed little babe. It comes from an awesome blog and you can find the post here.

So, my rendition is a little different and quite a bit smaller! But he was comfy and adorable. AND wide-eyed as an owl! We spent the day at BooTanica at the Botanical Gardens and it was a fantastic time.

We had a fantastic day and even came home with a decent amount of candy, a snapdragon plant and a 6' tall Live Oak TREE for free. The Botanical Gardens is definitely a membership we will be renewing next year.

Our Big Boy Bathtime

Things are really changing around here. Zayd is eating all sorts of foods: kiwi is a new favorite, banana, carrot, squash, sweet potato, peas, egg! He is so close to crawling and we are encouraging him on every day. He can hold himself in the crawling position but can't make anything happen. We have filled a HUGE tupperware container with clothes sized NB, -3months, 3 months, and even 3-6 months and moved em out to the garage! He has tons of hats he has outgrown and now that winter is quickly approaching we are taking inventory and stocking up on hats and socks. It seems shoes have also become a necessity!

With all of this change a-brewing, I realized that he just might have outgrown his little blue bathtub. We debated a little on where to graduate him to. Is he ready for the tub? Should we get one of those inflatable tub things? In the end, we went with the option closest to what we have been working with. This way, I can still empty the dishwasher or clean the kitchen while Zayd-y bathes. And we have one further level of graduation where we could move to the full sink side instead of the 1/2 sink side. :)
Thanks mom! This thing rocks!

Adios you old blue bathtub. I was getting cold in you!

Dirty bath water - my favorite!

Who is that good looking boy in the toaster?

The other HUGE advancement is Zayd's THREE TEETH. He was suddenly in need of a toothbrush. I took a million photos, narrowed it down to six and just can't decide which is the cutest. Thoughts?

What is this thing? Wonder how it tastes...

His first bite. What the heck is this?

Is this right?

Nom. Nom. Nom.

The other end is WAY more comfy on my swollen gums.

Zayd's First Playground Adventure!

With the weather being just beyond gorgeous, we decided to have a little picnic at Landa library and enjoy the beautiful grounds and playground. We had the most fun in the infant swings, which Zayd loved. I couldn't get his toothy smile on camera but he was all giggles, I promise you!

I think part of his love of the swings was that it provided prime viewing opportunities for the big kids clambering up the play set. It's all going to happen so fast...

Fall in love

It's officially fall here in San Antonio. Time to break out the hats and mittens.

P.S. It was 61!

Auntie Ella Marries Uncle Peter!!!

Little Zayd wanted to match the older Saleem/Mammen men and donned his best (and only) three piece pin stripe suit.

It was truly a gorgeous, whimsical, FUN wedding. No one else could have planned it quite the same. Now, we are back from vacation and back to the grind. Counting down the days until our NEXT vacation - a cruise! 24 days and counting. :)

National Night Out

Because I live in the best neighborhood in San Antonio, "neigh", the world, Zayd, Pops, and I were very excited to join our fellow Mahncke Park-ers for National Night Out. There was the second annual two mile run, (which we really need to start participating in - I have never seen so many jogging strollers!), a cookout, and a dessert potluck! I made funfetti cookies that neither Zayd nor I could try. :'( The San Antonio firemen even came out and let the kiddoes clamber all over the big red engine.

Here are a few family photos and Zayd's first tree climb. Doesn't it look so fall-y!

Six Months - It sure snuck up on us!

This little tyke is actually six months and one week. Apparently, keeping up with a six month old is so hard, mommies can't find time to blog!

What's new with the lentil?
  • He is back in the 50th percentile for weight and height (down from 75% at 4 months).
  • His head is still in the 80% for circumference. :)
  • He can sit like a champ.
  • He can drink from a sippy cup!
  • He has two adorable teeth!
  • He can shriek with conviction.
  • He's only waking every three hours at night and I feel blessed!
How did the little guy spend his 6-month birth-weekend? With his family! Thanks to Auntie Andie and Daddy for taking such cute photos to mark the occasion. (And, yes, I did not have card stock in Houston so I fashioned a "6" from my mom's Economist re-order card.)
